Vice President Fuel and Logistics
At JC Davis Ventures, LLC dba JC Davis Power, we keep work moving with smart, reliable solutions that allow our people and our partners to stay safe, focused, and ahead. Powering a jobsite shouldn't be a hassle. But too often, crews are left waiting, equipment breaks down, vendors go dark, and deadlines slip.
We started JC Davis Power to fix all of that. We're a full-service jobsite operations partner, delivering and maintaining temporary power, climate control, and tower lighting. All with one reliable crew. No handoffs. No confusion.
We show up, solve problems, and do the work the right way. Whether you're supporting customers in the field, building systems behind the scenes, or helping drive the business forward, you'll be part of a team that values reliability, accountability, and getting the job done.
Simple - Reliable - Done Right!
The Role
JC Davis Power delivers turn-key temporary power and climate control to construction and industrial clients nationwide. Fuel is a major part of our uptime commitment every generator on rent is only as reliable as the fuel behind it.
The Vice President of Fuel & Logistics owns fuel end to end supply, procurement, supplier relationships, storage, and delivery execution along with the logistics function that moves our equipment to and from jobsites through third-party trucking partners.
We are hiring a fuel industry operator. The mandate on cost is to buy right: understand every component of a delivered gallon and negotiate from that knowledge. The mandate on logistics is reliability: build trucking partners who quote accurate, and appropriate delivery times and perform as planned.
What You'll Do
Fuel — Supply & Procurement
Own the fuel strategy: how we source, store, and deliver fuel in each market we serve.
Master the cost drivers behind every delivered gallon — index and differential, freight, drop size, route density, payment terms and negotiate supply agreements from that understanding.
Use the economies of scale in fuel logistics — concentrated volume, fuller drops, denser routes, predictable demand to lower delivered cost for JCDP and make the business more efficient for our suppliers to serve.
Maintain supplier redundancy so no market depends on a single source, and keep supply resilient through seasonal disruptions.
Fuel — Delivery Performance
Own fuel scheduling and load planning across all markets, and manage suppliers and carriers against defined service standards: on-time delivery, fill accuracy, and after-hours responsiveness.
Maintain the on-call rotation and escalation path so no unit runs dry, nights, weekends, and holidays included.
Fuel — Storage & Large Projects
Own the decision on how each large project is fueled, with a documented cost and risk comparison, and set supply standards so a disruption never becomes a customer outage.
Where on-site or regional storage is justified, lead siting, permitting, design, and safe operation.
Fuel — Compliance & Fuel Quality
Own dyed diesel compliance end to end, and ensure full capture of motor fuel tax exemptions in every jurisdiction we operate in, and ensure zero tolerance for off-road fuel in on highway applications.
Maintain environmental and fire code compliance across all storage assets, and run a fuel quality program covering contamination, filtration, and storage stability.
Logistics — Team Leadership
Lead the team that schedules, tracks, and confirms equipment moves to, from, and between jobsites.
Establish clear SOPs, service standards, and escalation paths so the field knows what to expect and the business can commit to customer start dates with confidence.
Build the team and staffing model to support a fast-scaling business, with freight cost and delivery data captured accurately in our systems.
Logistics — Trucking Partner Development
Build and maintain a network of high-performing trucking partners who quote accurate delivery windows and perform as planned.
Hold partners to a scorecard built around reliability — on-time performance against committed dates, accuracy of quoted delivery times, tender acceptance, damage and claims, billing accuracy — through regular performance reviews.
Own commercial terms and qualification standards: rates and accessorials, operating authority, safety record, verified insurance, and executed agreements.
Give the strongest partners more volume and coverage, and replace those who cannot meet the standard.
Logistics — Freight Cost Management
Own freight as a managed cost line: cost per move and by lane, avoidable detention and standby charges, and freight audit against agreed rates.
Financial Ownership
Own the fuel P&L and the freight and logistics cost center. Build and defend the annual budget and rolling forecast, separating price effects from volume effects. Report on leading indicators of price changes.
Key Performance Indicators
Fuel:
Delivered cost per gallon versus benchmark.
Run-dry incidents (target: zero).
Supplier fill accuracy and on-time delivery rate.
Tax exemption capture; dyed-fuel violations (target: zero).
Reportable spills.
Budget variance, split price versus volume.
Logistics:
On-time delivery against committed dates.
Accuracy of quoted delivery windows.
Tender acceptance rate.
Cargo damage and claims rate.
Billing accuracy; freight cost per move.
First-Year Expectations
First 90 days. Full diagnostic of both functions. On fuel: supply agreements and pricing mechanics, actual delivered cost by market, and tax exemption capture. On logistics: the complete carrier roster with rates, performance, coverage, and compliance status. Deliver a findings memo with quantified opportunity on both sides.
Months 3–6. Improved fuel supply agreements in our largest markets. Carrier scorecard built and live, qualification standards enforced, and the partner network rationalized around proven performers.
Months 6–12. Executed strategy in market on both fuel and freight. Both teams staffed and running to defined SOPs, with fuel and freight data captured cleanly in our systems.
What We're Looking For
10+ years in fuel distribution, wholesale petroleum supply, or large-scale fuel procurement, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
Direct experience running a fuel business or supply function — jobber, distributor, supply desk, or fuel procurement lead for a large consuming fleet. We are specifically looking for someone who has owned the outcome, not administered someone else's program.
Demonstrated command of rack-based procurement and index negotiation, with a track record of measurable cost per gallon improvement.
Experience selecting, contracting, and managing third-party transportation providers against defined performance standards.
Hands-on experience with bulk fuel storage, including siting, permitting, and safe operation.
Working knowledge of multi-state motor fuel tax, dyed diesel regulations, and end-use compliance.
Working knowledge of the regulatory environment governing fuel storage and transport (SPCC, NFPA 30, DOT hazmat).
Financial fluency: able to build and defend a cost model, a capital request, and a P&L.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with heavy haul and oversize/overweight transportation requirements.
Background serving construction, industrial, oilfield, or equipment rental end markets.
Experience in a fast-scaling company, including systems implementation and ERP transitions.
Competencies
Builder. Both functions need to be built out, not maintained. The right candidate is energized by that.
Quantitative. Comfortable modeling cost-per-gallon economics at scale and defending the assumptions.
Negotiator. Credible across a table from refiners, fuel suppliers, and carriers.
Field credible. Able to stand on a jobsite and earn the respect of the people running the work.
Decisive under ambiguity. Fuel and freight decisions are time-sensitive and imperfect information is the norm.
